High School: Oakdale High School
What Made You Decide to Attend UMD?
I decided to attend UMD for its large number of students and endless amount of unique academic and research opportunities they offer.
Best Experience with a Class or Project
I love lab courses, especially Organic Chemistry! The labs are very interesting and a hands on way to learn about the science behind the experiments!
Favorite Class In Major
CHEM232-Organic Chemistry Laboratory
Favorite Class Out of Major
PSYC234-The Psychology of Happiness
Student Organizations/Extracurricular Activities
I am the Professional Committee Chair for a Professional Sorority for women in STEM, Alpha Omega Epsilon. I also serve as a Women In Engineering (WIE) Peer Mentor. In addition, I am a member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).
Favorite On-Campus Event
I love the first look fair! I was introduced to most of the clubs and organizations I am currently apart of through this event!
Favorite Research or Study Abroad Experiences
I joined the Vascular Kinetics Lab in the Bioengineering Department in Fall 2021 as a research assistant. I work with cell culture to differentiate induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) into induced brain microvascular endothelial cells
(iBMECs) to study metabolism in the blood-brain-barrier in relation to Alzheimer's disease. I love working on new projects and learning new experimentation techniques!
Cool Engineering Experience
A cool project I am currently working on is researching models of brain microvascular endothelial cell glutamate production and the role of extracellular glutamate in BMEC barrier function and metabolism! Using immunocytochemistry to analyze these experiments is my favorite part!
