Invention of the Year Award
Each year a panel of judges made up of University of Maryland personnel and industry experts selects one winner from groups of finalists in each of three categories: information science, life science and physical science.
Distinguished University Professor
This formal title denotes an academic honor of highest distinction and is awarded to a limited number of the university's most accomplished professors.
Distinguished Scholar-Teacher
This award honors senior faculty who, as individuals of outstanding scholarly accomplishment, combined with excellence in teaching, personify our image of the professorate.
Innovation Hall of Fame
Members of the Innovation Hall of Fame, who may be alumni, faculty, and others closely linked with the Clark School, have made a positive impact on society by creating a working product, system or design, or by producing a comprehensive body of technical work that has advanced the understanding of the engineering profession.
Glenn L. Martin Medal
This prestigious award honors individuals who have made a contribution to the mission and ideals of the A. James Clark School of Engineering. Any non-alumnus who receives the Glenn L. Martin Medal will receive from the Clark School a Lifetime Membership in the University of Maryland Alumni Association and the Clark School and be conferred the status of Terp for Life.
E. Robert Kent Outstanding Teaching Award for Junior Faculty
This award is given to a junior faculty member for excellence in teaching.
Dr. Marilyn Berman Pollans Outstanding Service Award for Staff
This award is given to a staff member whose service to their department, to the school, and the university has been judged outstanding.
Poole & Kent Teaching Award for Senior Faculty
This award is given to a senior faculty member for excellence in teaching.

This award is given to a faculty member whose service to their department, to the Clark School, and to the university has been judged outstanding.
Junior Faculty Outstanding Research Award
This award was instituted by the Clark School to recognize exceptionally influential research accomplishments by its junior faculty.
Senior Faculty Outstanding Research Award
This award was instituted by the Clark School to recognize exceptionally influential research accomplishments by its faculty.
Dean’s Outstanding Performance Award for Professional Track Faculty
This award was instituted by the Clark School to recognize exceptionally influential accomplishments in either or both the areas of research and teaching.
Student Competition Advisor Award
This award was instituted by the Clark School to recognize an individual or group of outstanding faculty/staff member(s) who have served as exemplary leaders of an engineering student design competition team in a national or international engineering design competition.
Terry Island Outstanding Advisor Award
This award was instituted by the Clark School to recognize staff excellence in undergraduate or graduate student advising. This award is named to memorialize Ms. Terry Island, honoring her work as an outstanding advisor, colleague, and administrator at UMD and in the Clark School.
Newcomer of the Year Staff Award
This award recognizes a newer staff member who in a very short time has made a significant impact on their unit and/or the Clark School.
Humble Hero Staff Award
This award is given to an exempt or non-exempt staff member who subtly makes a difference. This individual consistently provides outstanding service and goes above and beyond the scope of their role with no expectation of formal recognition.
Esprit de Corps Staff Award
This award recognizes an exempt or non-exempt staff member who demonstrates a positive attitude, willingness to support colleagues, and desire to further the mission of their unit and/or Clark School.
