What Made You Decide to Attend UMD?
I chose to attend UMD because of its vibrant diversity and excellent academic rigor in the biomedical engineering program. Growing up in a rural town with very little diversity, I was drawn to the campus culture, where I could see my culture and interests reflected in the student body. Additionally, the engineering program offers boundless cutting-edge resources in its labs, along with outstanding mentorship and support programs. UMD's wide variety of academic and non-academic clubs and organizations inspired me to envision myself deeply involved with the university community.
Best Experience with a Class or Project
For my culminating project in BIOE241, Biocomputational Methods, I worked on creating a graphical, mathematical, and CAD model of a proposed prosthetic arm. I enjoyed collaborating with my team members to creatively integrate the principles we learned in class into the design and presentation of this prosthetic. It was a rewarding experience that combined technical skills with teamwork and innovation.

Favorite On-Campus Event
The NextNow Fest is a vibrant festival held at the Clarice Performing Arts Center, featuring adorable pop-up shops, free merchandise, and amazing music. It's a fun and lively event that brings the campus community together!
Favorite Research or Study Abroad Experiences
Being a part of iGEM and working on Cervicare, a pre-cancer screening device for cervical cancer, provided me with extensive hands-on wet-lab experience and valuable research skills. One of the highlights was being part of the presentation team at the Mid-Atlantic Meet-up at the University of Virginia, which was an exciting and rewarding experience.
Cool Engineering Experience
iGEM hosted a booth for Maryland Day that gave different levels of teaching kids about DNA and RNA splicing with candy!
