WIE Internship Program
 

The WIE Program hires undergraduate interns to assist with the development and coordination of retention programs along with middle and high school outreach programs, including summer programs. The internship program allows undergraduates who are interested in working with peers and/or middle and high school-aged students an opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, and program planning skills while building mentoring relationships with program participants. 


2026 WIE Summer Internship Program

The 2026 Summer Program interns will support WIE Outreach initiatives between June -July 2026, to include intern training, program preparation, and program support for the various WIE programs. WIE summer programs aim to increase high school student interest in engineering by providing opportunities for learning, engagement, and empowerment. The ideal candidate will be available for all of the in-person sessions and the intern training dates are required.

Summer Internship Dates:

Intern Training will be scheduled for June 1 - 18, 2026, Monday - Thursday 9 am - 4 pm daily, with a lunch break. One or two training days for CPR/First Aid and Medication Administration training may occur in May.

WIE Aspire! Explore Engineering is a one-week summer program for rising 9th & 10th graders who are interested in exploring engineering. This week-long, commuter program introduces participants to the field of engineering through hands-on projects, engineering lab and facilities tours, and conversations with faculty, staff, and students in the Clark School of Engineering.
Dates: Monday, July 6 - Friday, July 10, 2026
This is a commuter program with interns working 8:00 am - 4:00 p.m.
 
WIE Change the World! An Introduction to Maryland Engineering is a one-week summer program for rising  11th and 12th graders who are considering majoring in engineering. This residential program introduces participants to campus life and the various engineering departments and majors at the University of Maryland through engaging lectures, hands-on activities, team challenges and conversations with faculty, staff, and students in the Clark School of Engineering.
Dates: Sunday, July 12- Friday, July 17, 2026
This is a residential, overnight program. We will hire interns for two shifts – a daytime shift from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm and/or a nighttime shift from 5:30 pm. – 9:00 am. Night Interns will be provided with housing and meals (campus residential hall) and Day Interns will be provided with lunch for the duration of the WIE Change program. Staff may be selected to serve as both day and night interns, spanning both shifts.
 

WIE RISE: An Introduction to Engineering Research is a one-week virtual program (via Zoom) for rising 9th - 12th graders that provides an introduction to engineering through the field of research. Interns will work 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm each day of the program. As this program is developed and run by the interns, there will be a few additional planning hours included to develop the curriculum prior to its start.
Dates: Monday, July 27 - Friday, July 31, 2026

Summer Intern Benefits

In addition to professional development training, interns will receive a $3,630 stipend*(if selected to work all programs, including both day and night shifts for WIE Change the World), free CPR/First Aid and Medication Administration trainings.

*Stipends will be prorated accordingly based on the programs hired for during the June 1 - July 31, 2026 period.

Offers of employment are contingent on fingerprinting and a child protective services background check (cost covered by WIE).  As an applicant, your disciplinary record and grade point average will be reviewed by our office. All WIE student employees must be in good academic standing (above 2.0 cumulative) and in good disciplinary standing.


2026-27 WIE Academic Year Internships

Academic year interns assist WIE staff with a variety of tasks including maintaining the WIE social media platforms, assisting with planning, promoting, staffing, setup, and cleanup at events throughout the fall and spring semesters, and supporting WIE staff in numerous other ways as needed. 

This is a hybrid position, with tasks that can be completed remotely along with in-person responsibilities. All interns are required to commit to working two hours in person per week. WIE Interns are paid $15.00/hr and must be in good academic standing (above 2.0 cumulative) and in good disciplinary standing.
