Minors in Engineering

Minors allow students to pursue a focused area of study outside their major. They may be a streamlined version of a major or a specialized subset of a discipline.

Requirements

Most minors require 15–24 credits, including:

  • At least 9 credits at the 300-level or higher
  • No more than 6 credits (or two courses) shared with a major
  • No overlap between multiple minors (a course may not count toward more than one minor)
  • A minimum grade of C- or higher in all courses

Completion Process

Once all requirements are completed:

  • The department offering the minor notifies the student’s college
  • The college verifies completion and notifies the Registrar
  • The minor is posted to the transcript after degree completion

Available Minors

To ensure appropriate academic advising, students who wish to pursue a minor or certificate should notify both:

  • Their home college (major advisor)
  • The unit offering the minor or certificate

This should be done as early as possible, and no later than one full academic year before the expected graduation date.

Requests to add a minor or certificate later than this timeline are reviewed and approved at the discretion of the minor or certificate advisor.

If an engineering student no longer wishes to pursue a minor or certificate, they should contact the minor or certificate advisor to request removal.

This request must be submitted before applying for graduation.
