2025 Nomination and Selection Process

Consideration will be given to individuals whose innovation(s) has demonstrated one or more of the following: 

  • Significant, positive contributions to society through a working product or system;
  • Extraordinary body of technical work and patent portfolio that has enabled innovations that inspire and advance the engineering profession;
  • Developed transformational or creative technologies, theories, or concepts leading to tangible outcomes with significant societal impact;
  • Has served as an inspiration to those around them, exemplifying how engineering innovation is solving challenges of significance for society.

The Innovation Hall of Fame Selection Committee seeks a broad range of nominees with experiences that reflect the rich diversity of the University of Maryland community. Both self and peer nominations are welcomed. 

New for 2025: Up to three awardees will be selected for biennual induction into the Innovation Hall of Fame. Unsuccessful nominations will be reviewed for one subsequent induction period before an update is required.   

Nominations must submitted through the online application no later than October 13, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.

  • University of Maryland alumni or alumni of other University System of Maryland institutions with demonstrated ties to the A. James Clark School of Engineering;
  • UMD faculty, staff or students whose innovations were developed primarily at the Clark School;
  • Awardee must be able attend the Innovation Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on February 20, 2025;
  • Nominees cannot be currently running for elected state or federal public office.
  • Only nominations completed through the online application and that adhere to the submission guidelines will be considered.
  • Unsuccessful nominations will be reviewed for one subsequent induction period before an update is required.
