What You Need to Know:

By placing counselors onsite, the Counseling Center makes it easier for Engineering students to get mental health services, and offers more direct access for faculty and staff to consult with a mental health professional about how to best support students. Additionally, being embedded in Engineering provides the context needed to tailor services and programs to the unique needs of our students.

AnTanique is not currently available for unscheduled sessions with students. Urgent services are available to any UMD students in person at the Shoemaker Building during business hours or by phone at (301) 314-7651 outside of business hours.

Your visits with your Embedded Counselor and any other Counseling Center staff are confidential. Your counselor will NOT share information about you with your program’s faculty, staff, or anyone else.

Just like with all Counseling Center services, meeting with the Embedded Counselor is free of charge.

Just because you are an Engineering student does not mean that your appointment has to be with the Embedded Counselor. Additional Counseling Center services and providers are available for any UMD students at the Shoemaker Building

The Embedded Counselor is available to consult with Engineering faculty and staff regarding any concerns they may have about a student’s mental health and how to best support the student. The Embedded Counselor may also provide general guidance on best practices for bolstering student mental health and wellbeing within the School of Engineering.

Yes! AnTanique provides outreach programming focused on mental health education and awareness tailored to the School of Engineering. Programs are available for student groups, classes, program departments, and other groups of faculty or staff by request. Regardless of the audience, the focus of this programming will be on improving student mental health and wellbeing. To request an outreach program, contact the embedded counselor or submit a Counseling Center outreach request.

Starting Strong

Whether you're returning or brand new, transitioning into the semester can be challenging. Try these tips to manage mental wellness this semester.

  • Create a routine. Consistency builds stability and helps reduce feeling overwhelmed.
  • Start small. Focus on progress over perfection.
  • Create a stress management toolbox.
  • Prioritize sleep, movement, and hydration.
  • Seek help early. Professors, TAs, tutoring resources and more are available to help.
  • Check in with friends and/or introduce yourself to someone new. Connection with others helps build resilience (i.g., study groups, extracurriculars, etc.).

Happy start to the semester!
