Speaker Bio
Dr. Kumares C. Sinha is the Edgar B. and Hedwig M. Olson Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering at Purdue University. He has been active in transportation research, education, and practice for more than five decades. After receiving his Ph.D. at the University of Connecticut in 1968, he taught at Marquette University before joining the faculty at Purdue University in 1974. He served as a Visiting Professor at MIT and at the Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee, as well as the Lockheed Martin Guest Professor of Engineering at the University of Central Florida, and Hagler Fellow and Eminent Scholar in Residence at Texas A&M. He has mentored many masters, doctoral, and post-doctoral students around the world. He served on the Executive Committee of the Transportation Research Board at the National Academies and the Advisory Council for the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics. He was a consultant to the World Bank for many years. He is an Honorary Member of both ASCE and ITE, and a Member of the National Academy of Engineering.
