Clark Scholars Summer Program
This program just made more enthusiastic about studying engineering! It made me really excited to see what was in store for the upcoming semester and for the rest of my college career.

Name: Kristen Yee

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Can you share a description of the experience? The Clark Scholars Summer Program is a two week program that gives the upcoming cohort an opportunity to get to know each other on both an academic and social level. After doing numerous team-bonding activities and attending useful workshops, you develop a special bond with the rest of your cohort in addition to your advisors. It is truly an amazing experience that I will never forget, and it allowed me to make close friends before the school year started.

What was the most impactful part of the experience? The most impactful part of the Clark Scholars Summer Program was being able to make close friends who have similar interests to you. As engineers, everyone has a passion for problem solving, creativity, and innovation. With these similarities, it is easy to make strong bonds with the rest of the cohort.

What surprised you? What surprised me the most about this program was how helpful the workshops were. The two main classes that we took were related to chemistry and digital logic concepts. I found that those workshops gave me a good foundation in the beginning of the school year.

Did you make any personal connections with your peers, industry professionals, faculty or staff? I made friends with everyone in the cohort in addition to the faculty. The staff were extremely supportive throughout the entire summer program and were always there to answer your questions or guide you through anything you were having trouble with.

What were your major takeaways? What did you learn? My biggest takeaway from the summer program was that making friends is extremely important when it comes to supporting each other. During the school year, a lot of us experienced stress due to certain classes, but having each other to study with or to just relax with relieves a lot of that stress that is unavoidable when it comes to schoolwork.

Have your career or academic goals changed as a result of this experience? This program just made more enthusiastic about studying engineering! It made me really excited to see what was in store for the upcoming semester and for the rest of my college career.
