Nasya Anderson

Class of 2024
Major:  Mechanical Engineering
Hometown:  Laurel, Maryland

What inspired you to become a ClarkLEADER?
I want to help and inspire other incoming students interested in STEM. I never really had a mentor or support group my first year because of COVID, so I just want to be the person I never had when I first got to college.

What is one piece of advice you would like to share with new Maryland Engineering students?
Make connections with your classmates and your professors. Create study groups early on in the semester, you will need each other more than you think, especially when you start getting into your in-major classes.

What are some organizations or extracurricular activities you are involved with on campus?
Black Engineers Society, Maryland Football Video, UMD Dynamic Dance Team, Black Student Union

What is a cool engineering experience you've had?
I designed a Rube Goldberg machine for my Introduction to Engineering class. Even though the class was online, I still was able to make an at-home machine that consisted of a ball, a water pulley system, a ramp, playing cards, a ladder, and an Arduino Uno.
