Currently working as an assistant professor in the Chemical and Biological Engineering Department at the University at Buffalo (SUNY). As head of the Monje Group, Dr. Monje mentors students in molecular modeling techniques to study the role of lipids in mechanisms of disease. Her postdoctoral training at The University of Chicago was centered on advanced molecular simulations of protein-lipid interactions during viral infections. Dr. Monje has over 10 years of research experience and has published 15 research papers within the field of Computational Biophysics. She is involved with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Biophysical Society, American Chemical Society, Society of Latin-American Biophysicists, and a consultant with the Complex Systems Group at the Physics Research Institute of UMSA. She has been awarded with the Ann G. Wylie Dissertation Fellowship by The University of Maryland, an award winner of the Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Bridge to Doctorate Fellow and LSAMP Undergraduate Program Fellow, and is an ACCESS Engineering Scholar. She has served as a panelist for Minorities in Science at both University of Maryland and Montgomery College since 2009. She has also served as a reviewer for the EngineerGirl Writing Contest & Ambassadors Program at the National Academy of Engineering since 2014.
