What motivated you to become a ClarkLEADER?
ClarkLEAD is an amazing way to welcome new students to campus and give them a solid start to their journey. College can be quite overwhelming at first, and now more than ever we need friends we can count on. This is a perfect place to learn more about the Clark School and build relationships with others.

What are some organizations or extracurricular activities you think new students should know about?

  • University Band is a great way to stay involved with music without the time commitment of marching band, and Dr. Potter is a ton of fun. Plus free concerts at the Clarice if you're not a band kid.
  • The Catholic Student Center has a ton of spiritual and social events. Every Wednesday night we have Mass and a free dinner (with dessert), so definitely a highlight of my week.
  • Stretch goal: Join Tau Beta Pi! This all-engineering professional fraternity is the second-oldest in the country and we have events plus a chill lounge! Membership is available to dedicated upperclassmen, so starting strong will pay off personally and professionally.

If you attended ClarkLEAD as a first-year student, what did you enjoy most about the event?
My favorite experience was simply talking to the other people at my table. At the time, this included transfer students as well, and although everyone had different backgrounds, we were all excited for a new chapter and opportunities for growth ahead.

What is one piece of advice you would like to share with new Maryland Engineering students?
Always ask questions! Whether it's raising your hand in class, learning about a club at First Look Fair, or just saying hi to someone new in the dining hall, don't be afraid to talk to others and meet people!
