Alison B. Flatau, Aerospace Engineering Chair

A nationally recognized expert on smart materials and structures, Alison Flatau has served in several leadership roles at Maryland Engineering, including the Director of the Undergraduate Program, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Faculty Advisor, Director of the Graduate Program, Associate Dean of Research, Associate Department Chair, and Acting Department Chair. She is also a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). Meet Alison B. Flatau

Nii O. Attoh-Okine, Civil & Environmental Engineering Chair

From earning an undergraduate degree at Rostov Institute of Civil Engineering in Russia to becoming one of few international speakers at the G20 Ministerial Meeting in Japan in 2019, Dr. Nii O. Attoh-Okine has built an impressive career as a scholar, journal editor, and book author.  Moving to Maryland from a Professorship at the University of Delaware, where he focused on cybersecurity and digital technologies that shape resilient infrastructure, Attoh-Okine will start his tenure as the new Chair of UMD's Civil & Environmental Engineering Department on September 1, 2022.
