Registration Open for UMD/NFPA Fire & Life Safety Ecosystem Symposium

The Department of Fire Protection Engineering at the University of Maryland (UMD) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) will hold the second UMD/NFPA Fire & Life Safety Ecosystem Symposium in College Park on September 24-25, 2024. We expect 150 participants at the Symposium.

The basic concept of the Symposium is to bring together researchers and practitioners on selected topics of interest in fire safety. The three selected topics are:

  • Fire hazards in renewable energy systems;
  • Residential fire challenges;
  • Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) fires.

For each selected topic, the Symposium program will include a succession of panel and group discussions, and more specifically: a plenary session to introduce the topic and the panel, followed by breakout sessions to allow for group discussions, and a final plenary session to allow for concluding remarks by the panelists and additional Q&A.

You can find detailed information on the program and the logistics at the Fire & Life Safety Ecosystem Symposium Website. Registration is now open.

For more information, please contact Professor Emeritus Jim Milke (Symposium co-host, milke@umd.edu) or Adjunct Professor Bob Andrews (Symposium Chair, rca@umd.edu).
