Eleanor Grosvenor Receives NSF Graduate Research Fellowship
Eleanor Grosvenor, who is about to complete her bachelor’s degree in materials science and engineering at the University of Maryland (UMD), has won a 2022 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF).
“I’m thrilled and honored to receive such a prestigious award,” said Grosvenor. “I’d like to thank the MSE department and my advisors, Dr. Ryan Sochol and Dr. Mohamad Al-Sheikhly, for their overwhelming support during my tenure.”
Grosvenor has been working in the Bioinspired Advanced Manufacturing lab for last several years on multiple projects, but her primary research involved 3D nano-printing of microcapsules for long-acting drug delivery, which was done in collaboration with University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) School of Pharmacy and InfraTrac, LLC. Additionally, Grosvenor served as first author on a paper published in Applied Sciences, which focuses on the effects of irradiation for sterilization on biodegradable food packaging.
As a graduate student at Northwestern University, Grosvenor will study polymers for environmental health applications, although her specific project is currently under development.
The NSF GRF program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported STEM disciplines who are pursuing research-based masters and doctoral degrees at accredited U.S. institutions. The five-year fellowship includes three years of financial support, including an annual stipend of $34,000 and a cost of education allowance of $12,000 to the student’s selected institution.
