Fischell to Speak Thursday

Robert E. Fischell (M.S. '53, physics, and D.Sc. '96) will give the final Whiting-Turner Business and Entrepreneurial Lecture of the 2009-2010 school year on Thursday, April 29 at 5 p.m. in the Kim Engineering Building Lecture Hall. His talk, "Biomedical Engineering for Improved Health Care, Reduced Costs and More U.S. Jobs," is a part of the 2010 Fischell Festival of Bioengineering.

Fischell has formed 14 private companies and holds more than 200 patents including for inventions such as the flexible coronary artery stent, lifetime pacemaker batteries and implantable insulin pumps.

Fischell and his family made gifts to found the Fischell Department of Bioengineering and Robert E. Fischell Institute for Biomedical Devices, and the Fischell professorship and fellowship.
