What motivated you to become a ClarkLEADER?
I was nominated to speak at the ClarkLEAD event, so I also wanted to help as a speaker. I am involved in other groups to help new students get into college. I am a peer mentor for the College Park Scholars program and also a tour guide with Maryland Images. I enjoy helping new students because I appreciated the help when I was starting.
What are some organizations or extracurricular activities you think new students should know about?
Terps Racing is the largest engineering club on campus. It’s a great way to work in a team and learn/put to use some engineering skills.
I can’t ignore my club: the Aquarist Association. We are a group of fishkeepers and we love all sorts of aquatic life from fish to shrimp. We are working to install a fish tank on campus with UMD facilities management.
If you attended ClarkLEAD as a first-year student, what did you enjoy most about the event?
The stories we heard from students were very good. It gave me a good sense of what was to come, different challenges, and how they overcame them.
What is one piece of advice you would like to share with new Maryland Engineering students?
Ask for help if you need it because no one will check up on you. There are so many resources her at UMD for students to use to help them succeed. Take advantage of those resources.
