Students with Potential and Interest, Considering Engineering (SPICE) | A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland

Update: April 22, 2020
Above all, the University of Maryland is committed to the health and safety of our community.  Therefore, we have canceled the SPICE Summer Program for Summer 2020.  If you are currently registered for the program, you will receive further communication from CMSE/WIE staff shortly.

We look forward to resuming the program in Summer 2021.  We wish you health, safety, and well-being during this uncertain time.

Program Overview

SPICE Summer Program (Students with Potential and Interest, Considering Engineering) is a week-long commuter program designed for young women who will be entering the 9th and 10th grade. The program is geared towards women who would like to learn more about engineering disciplines, opportunities, and careers. Throughout the course of the week, students are introduced to the field of engineering through projects, tours, and guest speakers. Each activity is intended to highlight the relevance of engineering in daily life and showcase how engineering improves society. All activities will be supervised by current engineering students and conducted in a safe learning environment at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Note: This is NOT a college credit-bearing program. It is meant to introduce students to the different disciplines and societal impacts of engineering. Its mission is also to strengthen confidence and foster community among women who aspire to study engineering.
