Dr. Eric Wachsman, Director of the Maryland Energy Innovation Institute (MEI2), and University of Maryland (UMD) Distinguished University Professor was recently interviewed by InsideEVs regarding the recent test of Donut Lab's new battery. Wachsman is an expert on solid state batteries, having founded his own solid-state battery company, Ion Storage Systems. He has more than 300 scientific publications and 40 patents/patent applications on ionic and electronic transport in materials, and their catalytic properties, and device performance.

When asked about the recent test, Wachsman encouraged caution and noted the insufficient data does not represent real-world usage in automotive applications. “The cells are not violating any law of thermodynamics,” Wachsman commented. “But the data presented leaves a lot to be desired for many reasons,” he said. And he’s not alone in those thoughts.
