Khaligh Named Interim Director of ISR
Professor Alireza Khaligh has been named Interim Director of the Institute for Systems Research (ISR). The role was previously held by Ankur Srivastava, who is now leading the newly formed UMD Semiconductor Initiatives and Innovation program.
Khaligh holds joint appointments with Electrical and Computer Engineering and ISR, and is affiliated with the Maryland Energy Innovation Institute. He is the Director of the Maryland Power Electronics Laboratory (MPEL), which is housed in the ECE Department. He joined ECE as an Assistant Professor in 2011 and was promoted to full Professor in 2019.
His research interests include modeling, analysis, design, and control of power electronic converters for electrified transportation and renewable energy systems.
Highly recognized in his field, Khaligh has received numerous awards, including the 2022 Vehicle and Transportation Systems Achievement Award from IEEE Power Electronics Society, and the 6th Nagamori Award from the Nagamori Foundation. Awards from UMD include the 2024 UMD Linda Clement Outstanding Advisor Award, 2020 Jimmy Lin Award for Innovation from ECE, the 2019 Outstanding Engineering Faculty Award from ISR, and the 2017 UMD Invention of the Year Award.
He is a Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International and the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Currently, he is Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification. Previous roles includeArea Editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (TVT), Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification, and Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics and an Associate Editor of IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics
