James Duncan Named Distinguished Scholar-Teacher
James Duncan, professor of mechanical engineering, was awarded the Distinguished Scholar-Teacher Award at the 21st Annual Faculty and Staff Convocation. The award honors "faculty who are considered leaders in scholarship and teaching..." and whose "zest for learning is an inspiration not only to their students, but to their colleagues as well."
Duncan is highly regarded for his research in fluid dynamics, concerning the interaction between sea and air and its effect on weather. He explores the dynamics of steady and unsteady breaking waves, turbulent boundary layers and related phenomena. At the same time, his dedication to teaching and connecting with students is well known. Last year he won the Clark School's Senior Faculty Teaching Award.
