Our Mission

Is to provide students with the support needed to navigate the A. James Clark School of Engineering through education about curriculum and academic policies in an effort to guide them on their path to graduation.  We do this by serving as a resource for all students as well as departments, the college, and the greater campus community.

UA&AS strives to create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.  Our primary role is individual advising for undecided engineering and prospective transfer students.  We also assist engineering students on a number of related issues and are committed to the success of all Clark School students.

Spring 2021 Operations

As the world deals with the impact of the COVID-19 virus outbreak, the University of Maryland has adopted measures to ensure the safety of our community.  With that in mind, advising services will be offered virtually for Spring 2021.

  • Current undecided engineering students, please contact us during our drop-in hours or via email (see below). If you have already declared a major within Engineering, please contact your academic department directly.
  • If you are a prospective internal or external transfer student, please email your questions to transfer_engr@umd.edu.

Drop-In Advising  for Current Clark School Students beginning January 25 - May 20, 2021.

We will have drop-in hours via zoom to answer general questions as follows:
Monday and Thursday 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Wednesday 3:00pm - 5:00 PM

There will be no Drop-In Advising hours the week of March 15 - 19, 2021.

Drop-In Hours for Students Facing Academic Difficulties in the Clark School of Engineering

Drop-in hours for students facing academic difficulties will be offered Thursday, February 25, 2021 to Thursday, May 20, 2021 on the following days/times:

Thursdays from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM

With the exception of Thursday, March 18, 2021 and April 8, 2021 (no drop-in hours)

Academic difficulties may include, but are not limited to:
-poor mid-term grades
-poor test taking skills/grades
-trouble grasping course content

The purpose of these hours is to provide you with the tools and resources needed to make an informed decision about a course and/or assist you with being successful in a course.

True sustainability happens when it is embedded into our core operation. The Green Office Program engages staff, faculty and students in a dynamic initiative that promotes best environmental practices at the University of Maryland. The program supports and promotes offices/units that are taking steps toward reducing their environmental footprint. It seeks to motivate environmentally friendly behaviors by providing definitive guidelines and reducing confusion about best practices. The program operates through a network of representatives (GO Reps) in schools, centers and administrative units.
