How did you find the internship/co-op? What was the interview process like?  I began applying for internships in August and discovered an exciting role at Micron Technology that greatly piqued my interest. I promptly applied for the position and informed my previous team at Micron about my application. As a result, I received an interview call. Two key takeaways from this experience are timing your internship applications correctly and actively building your professional network.

 

What have been the most interesting aspects of your internship?  The diversity of interns working at Micron and the benefits they provide for internships.

 

What campus activities or courses do you think helped you, or would have helped you, with this internship?  My coursework exposed me to various perspectives, particularly the cloud security course. This knowledge significantly contributed to my performance during interviews.

 

How would you describe the company culture? What was the most helpful thing your supervisor did to make you feel comfortable at the organization?  My current supervisor is the best manager I’ve worked with so far. His transparency and clear expectations have empowered me to exceed my internship responsibilities and deliver fruitful results.

 

Was there diversity among your colleagues within the department and throughout your internship/co-op experience?  Yes, I have made friends from different cultures, countries, and backgrounds during my internship. This has been a truly amazing experience.

 

How have your career or academic goals changed as a result of this internship experience?  I now know what I should do and where I can contribute in the field of cybersecurity for a company because of the internship.

What advice would you give other UMD engineering students seeking an internship or co-op position?  Start applying early and build your professional network.
