What motivated you to become a ClarkLEADER?
As a transfer student myself, I understand how important it is to feel welcomed and supported when stepping into a new environment. What motivates me to be a ClarkLEADER is the opportunity to give back by helping others feel confident, seen, and connected as they begin their journey at UMD.
What is one piece of advice you would like to share with new Maryland Engineering Students?
Take ALL the help you can get. The Clark School will challenge you in ways you might not expect, no matter how prepared you feel. Engineering is tough, and there will be moments when you're pushed to your limit or past your limit. But you’re not alone, everyone goes through this. Use your resources, go to office hours, lean on your peers, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. It’s okay to struggle, as long as you keep going. Growth happens outside your comfort zone, and you are more capable than you think, especially since you made it here.
What are some organizations or extracurricular activities you think new students should know about?
One organization I highly recommend is American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), I'm part of the executive board this year, and it's a great way to connect with other students, gain leadership experience, and explore hands-on projects and career opportunities. Even if you’re not a mechanical engineering major, there are other amazing engineering organizations.
