The Clark School and the University of Maryland provide numerous short-term study abroad opportunities during the Winter, Spring Break, and Summer terms. Programs allow students to complete in-major, technical electives, out-of-major technical electives, and general education requirements. The program’s host cities of Quito and Cuenca provide students with an immersive experience and chance to explore the interactions between technological innovations and social issues such as education, environmental and ecological sustainability, energy, food security, public health, and safety. While investigating critical issues related to science, technology, and society, you’ll engage in meaningful conversations and activities that involve government and industry leaders, NGOs, academic experts, indigenous peoples, and other stakeholders. Spend 2.5 weeks in Germany this winter through our partner program at the University of Kassel! The IWU program allows students to engage with a technical course revolving around renewable energy sources paired with a German language class that allows you to dive deeper into German culture and your host city. Students live with a host family in Kassel as a way to further build connections with the local community, learn about life in Germany, and authentically engage with their daily lifestyle. Your host family serves as a home away from home, and a support network throughout your program.

Whether you're interested in exploring the effects of air pollution or building your leadership skills in conjunction with local experts, Rwanda serves as a content-rich destination and cross-cultural experience for students. Each course provides the chance to engage with industry partners, participate in site visits, and hands-on experiences that allow you to apply the knowledge gained in a variety of settings.
Students enroll in one of two courses offered as part of this program: CHBE405/ENCH605: Global Perspectives on Air Pollution Sources and Control or ENES275/475 Leadership in Times of Crisis.

Summer in Denmark: DTU Summer University
Spend your summer at the Technical University, a global leader in research, innovation, and knowledge sharing! Located about 30 minutes from the Copenhagen city center, you are able to enjoy DTU's student culture with close access to all of the amenities of the capital city.
The Summer University hosts three sessions in June, July, and August where you typically focus on one course/session. Students are invited to select their length of stay in country, and participate in 1-3 sessions offered as part of the program.

Summer in France: ISAE Aerospace Summer Program
Interested in learning about the aerospace insdustry from the French perspective? This unique opportunity allows for the chance to visit and study in five leading French engineering schools, while discovering different regions of the country and being immersed in the French "art de vivre" for 4 weeks!
This program will provide an overall knowlege of aeronautics and space fundamentals, with course content including scienctific and technical information paired with visits to conferences, industry, and cultural sites.

Summer in Germany: Hochschule München (HM) Summer School
Spend five weeks in southern Germany and have a chance to engage with technical courses with a focus on sustainability and green technology. Munich is an exciting destination which combines a high tech hub with a rich cultural atomosphere combined with Bavarian traditions. Students will study at our partner, Hochscule München, the second largest University of Applied Sciences in Germany, and select two technical courses of their choosing, paired with a German language and culture class which helps you learn everyday courses and engage with German culture, history, and life. Courses also include a number of field trips as a way to engage with local industry and engage with topics learned in the classroom first hand.

Looking for a unique chance to engage and connect with automobile technology? Spend five weeks in Japan studying with faculty members from Nagoya University and exploring current trends and insights of the automotive industry. This program allows students to supplement their knowledge gained in the classroom with practical knowledge as you have exposure to the authentic environment of the automobile factory and research center. Past participants have had the chance to engage with researches from Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi, along with cultural excursions to Kyoto, Nara, and Tokyo.
