What motivated you to become a ClarkLEADER?
What motivated me to become a ClarkLEADER was my passion for building inclusive communities When I first arrived at UMD, the sense of connection and guidance I received from student leaders made a lasting impression on me.
I wanted to give back by providing that same support to incoming students. I’m also motivated by the opportunity to grow as a leader myself—developing my communication skills, learning how to facilitate group discussions, and creating an environment where everyone feels seen and valued. Being a ClarkLEADER allows me to help shape the start of someone else’s college journey while continuing to grow personally and professionally.

What is one piece of advice you would like to share with new Maryland Engineering Students?
One piece of advice I would give to new Maryland Engineering students is: Don’t be afraid to ask for help early and often. Engineering can be challenging, and it’s easy to feel like you have to figure everything out on your own. But the truth is, no one gets through it alone. Whether it's going to office hours, forming study groups, talking to your professors, or connecting with older students and advisors—seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

What are some organizations or extracurricular activities you think new students should know about?
I think people should look into Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP), Blck Student Union (BSU), and National Society of Blacks in Engineering. These clubs have made a big impact on my freshman year.

If you attended ClarkLEAD as a first-year student, what did you enjoy most about the event?
I enjoyed the opportunity to talk with upperclassmen and get direct advice from people who had experienced what I was about to.
