How did you find the internship/co-op? What was the interview process like?   I found the opportunity through linkedIn.  The interview process had 3 rounds lined up immediately one after the other. The initial round was panel interview consisting of technical questions. In this round, I was thoroughly tested on my knowledge for linear algebra and computer vision and some software development skills. The next round was based on my resume which included questions on the projects that I had done. The final round included behavioral questions.

What have been the most interesting aspects of your internship?    Developing efficient algorithms in C++ and learning professional software development skills have been the most interesting aspects of my internship. Moreover, solving challenging algorithmic problems has also been an interesting aspect of my internship.

What campus activities or courses do you think helped you, or would have helped you, with this internship?   I had taken courses such as ENPM673 – Perception for Autonomous Robotics, CMSC733 - Computer Processing of Pictorial Information, CMSC828C – Statistical Pattern Recognition, and ENPM808X – Software Development for Robotics, which proved to be the most important courses for securing this position and they also helped me throughout my internship. These courses helped me in developing my core domain skills in computer vision, linear algebra, and software development. The computer vision courses prepared me for the domain knowledge that is required in the field and the software development course prepared me for working in C++ environment and using the software development tools such as .git, project structuring, etc.

How would you describe the company culture?  What was the most helpful thing your supervisor did to make you feel comfortable at the organization?  The work culture is great at the company. There is a standup meeting held everyday in the morning where we have to report all the progress and problems that happened a day before.  If any problems surfaced then the whole team helps with coming up with a solution.  I get to work on problems that are interesting and challenging while maintaining a great work life balance.  My supervisor has been very supportive throughout my internship. She encouraged me to ask questions and seek help from the rest of the team, and provided all the required help for my initial orientation phase. Moreover, she helped me with the software development questions that I struggled with and was always happy to provide explanations.
