Briskman imageECE Alumnus Briskman Elected to National Academy of Engineering
Electrical and Computer Engineering alumnus and co-founder of Sirius XM Radio, Robert D. Briskman (M.S.E.E. ’61) was elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) today. Election to the NAE is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Briskman also recently received a NABA Award
.

Jeong Kim Receives Legion of Honor from France, Launches New Business
Clark School alumnus Jeong Kim received the French Legion of Honor, France’s highest award, for his contributions to global technology research during his time as president of Bell Labs, a research organization owned by French global telecommunications equipment company Alcatel-Lucent.

Bluzer Honored by Northrop Grumman
Nathan Bluzer, Ph.D, an alumnus of the University of Maryland's Clark School of Engineering, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Imaging Systems from Northrop Grumman.

Aerospace Alumnus Awarded Distinguished Flying Cross
Aerospace Engineering alumnus Lt. Col. Paul C. Zurkowski, B.S. '85, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor for providing air support that saved the lives of 90 American troops during an engagement in Afghanistan. The award is given to those serving in the Air Corps of the Army who distinguishes themselves with heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight.

Engineering Alumnus Featured in Forbes
Mechanical Engineering alumnus Alex Mehr (M.E., Ph.D., '03) was featured in the March 3, 2014 issue of Forbes Magazine. Mehr is co-founder of Zoosk, an online romantic social network and dating service. The Forbes article "Up-And-Comers: Entrepreneurs Who Want To Find You Love" features both Mehr and Zoosk co-founder Shayan Zadeh.

Clark School Alumna Joins Bioengineering Faculty
Fischell Department of Bioengineering alumna Dr. Kimberly M. Stroka (‘11, Ph.D.) was named an assistant professor within the department. Her official start date is slated for January 2015. Stroka, who specializes in cell engineering, nano/microtechnology and quantitative mechanobiology, has focused much of her recent research on cancer metastasis, cardiovascular disease and the immune response and, more specifically, how physical properties of the cell’s microenvironment affect cellular behavior

Materials Science Alumna Wins University’s Distinguished Dissertation Award
University of Maryland alumna Jane Cornett (Ph.D. ’13, materials science and engineering) won the Graduate School’s Distinguished Dissertation Award for her work on the behavior of thermoelectric materials. Cornett’s dissertation, "Thermoelectric Transport Phenomena in Semiconducting Nanostructures,” won the Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Engineering division. It was submitted for the university award after winning competitions at the department and Clark School levels.
