Laurer
Clark School alumnus and Innovation Hall of Fame inductee George Laurer (B.S., EE, '51) was featured in the New York Times Magazine for his creation of the Universal Product Code (UPC). Learn more here.

University of Maryland aerospace engineering alumni Charles Brink and Kevin G. Bowcutt, along with Department of Aerospace Engineering Professor Mark J. Lewis, have been principal contributors in the X-51A’s ten-year program. On May 1, 2013, during the final flight of the X-51A Waverider test program, the program achieved a breakthrough by reaching a sustained, hypersonic flight using air-breathing, high-speed scramjet propulsion. Clark School alumnus David Lai (B.S., BioE '12) was a finalist in Maryland governor Martin O'Malley's first #MDForward contest, which invited Marylanders to share their stories about how they are "moving Maryland forward."

Clark School alumnus Professor S. Pamir Alpay (Ph.D., MSE '99), was appointed head of the University of Connecticut's (UConn) new Department of RaucheMaterials Science and Engineering (MSE), part of its School of Engineering.

Clark School alumnus Robert D. Rauch, P.E., has been appointed as a new member of the University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents.

The International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS) has adopted a theory-based calculation for the critical parameters of aqueous solutions of sodium chloride, first-authored by Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE) alumna Daphne A. Fuentevilla (Ph.D. '12), as its new international guideline.

Clark School alumna Diane Jackson has been named the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) Branch Chief of Geoscience and Geotechnical Engineering Branch 2.
