Casarez and HyltonClark School mechanical engineering junior Carlos Casarez has been awarded a Goldwater Scholarship and civil engineering junior Erin Hylton is a Udall Scholar for 2012.


Chem-E Car Advances to Nationals

The Pride of Maryland, the chemical reaction-powered model car fielded by Team Thirsty Turtles in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers' Chem-E Car competition, took second place at the society's mid-Atlantic conference on April 14. The team will compete in the national competition this fall.

Gamera Team Recognized by Helicopter Society

Gamera TeamThe Gamera human-powered helicopter team recently received the Igor I. Sikorsky International Trophy from American Helicopter Society International for designing and building a new, record-setting helicopter.


Lovell Recognized for Service Leadership

Lovell David Lovell, Clark School faculty advisor to UMD's Engineers Without Borders chapter, has been named the 2012 recipient of the "Peter J. Bosscher Faculty Advisor Award for Outstanding Leadership" by Engineers Without Borders USA.

Gulick Fischell Department of Bioengineering junior Colleen Gulick has been named one of the nation's Top 10 College Women by Glamour Magazine.

David Curtis (M.S. '75, civil engineering) was appointed to a three-year term on the California Department of Water Resources Climate Change Technical Advisory Group.

Mounya Elhilali (M.S. '03 and Ph.D. '04, electrical engineering) has been named an Office of Naval Research Young Investigator for her work in neuroscience. She is an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University.

Michelle Lynne Mazurek (B.S. '04, electrical engineering) has received a Facebook Fellowship for her work in creating effective and secure forms of content sharing. She is a doctoral student at Carnegie Mellon University.
