Descriptions:

Maria (B.S. ’86, nuclear engineering) and Michael Korsnick established this award to expand the nuclear engineering talent pipeline. They hope to incentivize students to participate in the nuclear engineering program at the University of Maryland, and ultimately fuel the nation’s efforts in establishing itself as a leader in nuclear power production and reliability. The Maria and Michael Korsnick Nuclear Engineering Innovation Current-Use Award in Mechanical Engineering will provide merit-based awards for undergraduate students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering who demonstrate an interest in the field of nuclear engineering and/or nuclear energy.

Eligible recipients will demonstrate interest through, but not limited to: enrollment in the nuclear engineering minor program, the reactor operator license training program, the Fundamentals of Nuclear Reactor Engineering course, internship experience, and/or work experience in the UMD Radiation Facilities. The chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering or their designee(s) will administer the fund and select recipients in consultation with relevant faculty.
