NEW PROGRAMS
Clark School Associate Professor Michel Cukier has been named the inaugural director of the Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students at University of Maryland, the nation’s first undergraduate honors program in cybersecurity, representing an innovative new model for cybersecurity education.
 UMD held its first Center of Excellence in Regulatory Science event, attracting more than 150 government, industry and academic representatives to the annual showcase event for the new center. Speakers included William Bentley, chair of the Fischell Department of Bioengineering within the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the College Park campus; Dr. James Polli, professor and Ralph F. Shangraw/Noxell Endowed Chair in Industrial Pharmacy and Pharmaceutics at the School of Pharmacy, based on the Baltimore campus; FDA Chief Scientist Dr. Jesse Goodman; Dr. Robert Conley of Eli Lilly and Company; Dr. James McElvain of Kythera Biopharmaceuticals; Dr. Jack Cook of Pfizer; and Dr. Steve Castellino of GlaxoSmithKline.
 The Clark School entered into a collaboration with the Afghanistan Ministry of Public Works in the areas of transportation research, education and best practices. Clark School Dean Darryll Pines and Civil and Environmental Engineering Chair Ali Haghani signed a memorandum of understanding with Najibullah Aoudjan, minister of public works for Afghanistan. The Clark School will collaborate on improving ways of managing the region’s highways, sharing experience in transportation research, information exchange on providing safe driving conditions and sharing best practices. The Clark School’s Center for Advanced Transportation Technology will assist in the effort.
