What Made You Decide to Attend UMD?
I knew I wanted to attend a large state school with a plethora of academic resources and well as social event such as football and basketball games. I loved the location of UMD which was so close to Washington D.C. yet still had a campus with greenery and walking spaces. Choosing UMD in the Spring of 2020 was genuinely the right fit for me. It allowed me to ease into my courses while staying safe amid the pandemic. I knew that my education (wether online or in person) would be stellar at UMD due to its facilities and its faculty.

Best Experience with a Class or Project
One of my favorite experiences within a class was the ability to go in person for my labs, though most of my classes were online. My labs therefore had smaller class sizes which allowed me to make friends and work on labs with those in my class. Unfortunately, I have not had a plethera of in person classes so far, however I am so excited for class projects moving forward!

Favorite Class
BIOE121: Biology for Engineers Laboratory

Favorite Class Out of Major
FIRE198: First-Year Innovation & Research Experience Semester 2

Student Organizations/Extracurricular Activities
Alpha Omgea Epsilon (A.O.E) Recruitment Chair
Society of Women Engineers (SWE) - Secretary
FLEXUS Living and Learning Community
First Year Innovation and Research Experience (FIRE)
Quality Enhancement Systems and Teams (QUEST) Honors Program

Favorite On-Campus Event
Though I came at a time where most classes and events were online, one thing I am truly grateful for is meeting new people with similar interests and passions as me. I have loved meeting people in my dorms as well as in my classes.

Favorite Research or Study Abroad Experiences
This past summer I conducted research on UMD's Shady Grove Campus is Rockville, MD. In this lab we used various techniques in order to investigate the properties of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine kinase (NAGK) in poplar trees. Understanding the interactions between NAGK and other various compounds helps to understand the full pathway complex in poplar trees and leads us towards further research.

Another big reason I chose the Clark school is due to the emphasis on studying abroad even as an engineering major, which is often seen as unattainable. I hope to study abroad to either Spain or Denmark someday!

Cool Engineering Experience
One of my best engineering moments would be in a project for ENES100 where we had to make a device that would help improve people's lives. My team allocated assignments and I was given the task of coding and wiring, two things that were not necessarily my strong suits. One night, after I had been working on the code for about a week, the Arduino finally started working with the code and the LEDs on the circuit. I think that this experience has helped me build my confidence as an engineer.
