What Made You Decide to Attend UMD?
I've always loved large state schools, so Maryland's beautiful campus and energetic culture immediately drew my attention. On top of the campus itself, its location is a perfect distance from home for me, and I love the DMV culture. Finally (and most importantly), Maryland's engineering school is highly ranked, so I knew I would be getting a quality education that would prepare me for a successful career.
Best Experience with a Class or Project
While engineering certainly comes with its struggles, hard times are almost always followed by a breakthrough. Freshman year, my ENES100 group and I could not get the code and wiring on our OSV to work effectively, and for days we had nothing but a wooden plank and inanimate wheels. After a night of hard work in office hours, we ran the code one more time and the wheels moved!

Favorite On-Campus Event
My favorite on-campus event is undoubtedly the homecoming tailgate at Nyumburu, the campus's cultural center. Hundreds of people including students from UMD, alumni, and even students from neighboring universities flood the parking lot behind Stamp Student Union from the beginning of the homecoming football game until past sundown for a fun day of music and free food!
Cool Engineering Experience
After my freshman year, I interned as a Risk Engineering Services Intern at Chubb Insurance. Although it was not directly related to my major, I learned a lot about the risks of fire, how it spreads, and how to protect against it. Part of my training was hands-on, where they placed the interns and incoming Risk Engineers in a fire-proof building and lit a huge fire right in the middle of the room! It was a bit intimidating to stand in a room where fire was spreading to the ceiling and smoke was billowing, but it was amazing to see everything I had learned about going to work.
