What Made You Decide to Attend UMD?
Coming into college, I was looking to experience the benefits of a big school paired with an energetic atmosphere. I never wanted to feel bored or that there weren't enough opportunities around me. After visiting the beautiful campus and learning more about all the academic, social, and professional programs, I knew UMD was the right choice for me!
Best Experience with a Class or Project
I really enjoyed my semester-long project in FIRE120, a course within the First-Year Innovation and Research Experience (FIRE). It was cool to engage in the collaborative research process as a freshman and develop project proposals with my teammates and professors.
ENEE222: Elements of Discrete Signal Analysis
Favorite Class Out of Major
IDEA258Z: Digital Product Design
Student Organizations/Extracurricular Activities
Besides engineering-related activities on campus, I’m involved with PERIOD. @ UMD, a club that raises awareness for menstruators without access to clean menstrual hygiene products. We frequently send care packages to local women’s shelters, have initiated a campus-wide free menstrual product program, and aim to tackle the stigma surrounding periods!
Favorite On-Campus Event
My favorite on-campus event is Technica! Every November, UMD hosts the world's largest all-female and non-binary hackathon where ~1000 students come to College Park for a 24-hour creative coding marathon. The event has totally reshaped the way I view technology and my role as a female engineer in the space!
Favorite Research or Study Abroad Experiences
My favorite research experience has been working under Dr. Michelle Mazurek within the Maryland Cybersecurity Center. Our work is at the intersections between human-computer interaction and security-related behaviors. I've been able to collect and analyze user data to better understand and enhance privacy policies.
Cool Engineering Experience
I enjoy applying the skills I'm learning within the classroom to summer internships and other technical work experiences. It's really cool knowing how well the Clark School prepares us for the challenges that engineers in the industry are actually facing!
