In just 30 seconds, could you convey the results of your latest paper to your colleagues? To an interviewer? To the representative of a funding agency? If the answer to any of these is “no,” then you need this workshop.

Being able to explain what you do quickly and convincingly is important, and it’s not easy. This workshop will help you sharpen your skills at taking a complex idea and distilling it down to just a few thoughts. We’ll compare the kind of abstract published in a scientific journal to a three-sentence “elevator speech” that uses plain language to get across your most important thoughts.

The seminar will include two writing exercises. You will come away with a simple way to explain your research.
