With more than 600 graduates since its inception in 1994, the Professional Master of Engineering and Graduate Certificate in Engineering programs offer practice-oriented, part-time graduate programs designed to assist engineers and technical professionals in the development of their careers and to provide the expertise needed in the rapidly changing business, government, and industrial environments.  Challenging courses are taught by full-time and experienced adjunct faculty in the evening or late afternoon to accommodate the working professional and delivered via the University System of Maryland’s Interactive Video Network (IVN).  Sites already offering graduate engineering programs are the HEAT Center in Harford County, the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center in St. Mary’s County, and the Universities at Shady Grove in Montgomery County.

The Hagerstown facility opened in January 2005.  Dr. C. David Warner III is the center’s executive director and he’s “thrilled to have the flagship school in Maryland's university system join our campus.  College Park's presence as the fourth school offering classes in Hagerstown is a positive indicator of the growth at USMH.  By providing advanced engineering programs we are offering new opportunities to local businesses and industry.”   The center currently offers eleven academic programs from Frostburg State, Towson University, and University of Maryland University College.

"The availability of graduate-level engineering programs from the University of Maryland, College Park, will be a huge benefit to the citizens and businesses of Washington County,” says Tim Troxell, executive director, Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission. “Increasing the knowledge and technical proficiency of our workforce will make us more competitive in the marketplace."

Employers, technology leaders, and human resource specialists can learn more about the graduate engineering programs being offered at USM – Hagerstown by attending the launch presentation/reception on Thursday, December 1st, at 2 p.m. at the center (call 240-527-2060 to RSVP).
