Dedication Launches One of Kind New Research and Teaching Facility

COLLEGE PARK , Md. —

WHAT
The innovative new Jeong H. Kim Engineering Building at the University of Maryland is a cutting edge research facility; a hands-on teaching tool that bares its structural skeleton and mechanical-electrical "guts"; a bricks-and-mortar embodiment of a transformational new approach to engineering research and education; and a stunning architectural triumph, all in one.

"When you enter the Kim Building, you enter the future of the Clark School and of engineering itself—cross-disciplinary, adaptable to change and growth, open to the world," says Nariman Farvardin, dean of the University of Maryland 's Clark School of Engineering.

The new Kim Building , the engineering trend it embodies, and some of the amazing technologies it is producing will be on display during dedication ceremonies for the building on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2005.

WHO
Dedication ceremony speakers: Maryland Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., Maryland House Speaker Michael Busch, University System of Maryland Chancellor William E. Kirwan, Jeong H. Kim, university professor and president of the Bell Labs unit of Lucent Technologies, Clark School Dean Nariman Farvardin, University of Maryland President C.D. Mote.

WHEN

  • Innovation Hall of Fame Ceremony: 1:30 to 2:00 p.m.
  • Symposium on Engineering Innovation: 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
  • Guided Tours of the New Kim Engineering Building: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (no tours 11:30 to 12:30)
  • Kim Building Dedication Ceremony and Recognition Event: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
