WHAT: The deadline for the Clark School's "desktop supercomputer" naming contest has been moved back two weeks from September 15 to September 30, 2007, in order to accommodate additional student submissions from K-12 schools and colleges.

"In the spirit of the work behind the invention, which will make supercomputing power more accessible to all users, I wanted more students to have the chance at winning $500 and naming the device," said Prof. Uzi Vishkin, who has developed the "desktop supercomputer" based on parallel processing technology.

Already, nearly 5,000 names have been submitted and more than 26,000 people have visited the Clark School web site to learn more.

The winning entry will earn the submitter $500 and the distinction of having named this advance in computing technology.

For more information on the invention, please see the full press release.

WHO: Those under the age of 18 and non-U.S. residents may participate in addition to adults and U.S. citizens. The full contest rules and restrictions are available online: http://www.ece.umd.edu/supercomputer/rules.php
